Fire-Resistant Glass

Fire-Resistant Glass (EW/EI) - the minutes that can decide whether people get out in time

Fire-resistant glass holds back flames, smoke and heat for a specific, certified period – exactly the time needed for evacuation. SIA Glāzeri BT supplies FIRESWISS fire-resistant glass from the Swiss group Glas Trösch and carries out its cutting and processing in-house, so we can deliver both finished glass sheets and insulated glazing units with fire-resistant glass built in.

Fire-resistant glass consists of several glass sheets bonded with a special gel. Under the high heat of a fire, the gel hardens, turns opaque and expands – forming a barrier against flames, smoke and heat.

  • Holds back flames and smoke for a certified period, defined by the glass class

  • Two protection classes available depending on project requirements

  • Combinable with other processes – also available as an insulated glazing unit

  • Suitable for both interior and exterior use, including façades

FIRESWISS COOL (EW class, available as EW30 and EW60) blocks flames and smoke while providing limited thermal insulation – suitable where visual contact and basic protection are the priority. FIRESWISS FOAM (EI class, available from EI15 up to EI120) additionally provides full thermal insulation – the glass stays safely cool on the far side, making it the choice wherever people may be standing right next to it. The number (e.g. EI60) indicates how many minutes the glass maintains its protective properties. Not sure which class fits your project? Get in touch and we’ll help you choose.
