Tempered glass
Tempered Glass (ESG) - safety glass that survives impacts ordinary glass can't
Tempered glass is up to 6 times stronger than standard glass, and if it does break, it shatters into small, blunt fragments instead of dangerous shards. That’s why it’s the standard choice for windows, façades, glass partitions, doors and furniture – anywhere people’s safety is on the line. SIA Glāzeri BT produces tempered (ESG) and heat-strengthened (TVG) glass at our plant in Riga on a modern UniGlass tempering line – one of the few in Latvia capable of tempering glass with low-emissivity (low-e) coatings, so we can handle technically demanding orders other suppliers turn away.
The glass is heated to 600-700°C and then rapidly cooled with a powerful blast of air. That rapid cooling creates internal stresses in the glass – and those stresses are exactly what make tempered (also called toughened) glass stronger and safer than ordinary annealed glass.
5–6× higher mechanical strength than non-tempered glass
Withstands temperature swings from -70°C to +250°C – built for demanding climates
Breaks into small, blunt fragments instead of sharp shards – virtually injury-safe
Officially classified as safety glass
If safety is the priority – glass doors, railings, low-level windows – choose fully tempered (ESG) glass. If you need extra strength on larger glass panels but don’t require full “safety glass” classification, heat-strengthened (TVG) glass is often the better fit, and it’s commonly used as a layer within laminated glass.
